Sew, Sew, SEW!!

What is it that you would love to do and keep doing?  For me it is sewing and quilting, but I think you may have already guessed that.  Right now I'm working on altering 3 dresses for a wedding later this month and realized that I really enjoyed making clothing... no really I do!  I remember when I would make my own dress for weddings I was attending or functions we were going to and be putting the final stitch into the dress just hours before having to put it on!!  Friends would ask "and exactly when did you finish what you are wearing, yesterday??"   They knew me too well LOL.   Over the past few years I have become very particular as to what projects I will take on.  Working with chiffon is one I will not do anymore.  I know when my frustration will hit it's limit on certain projects, so I don't take on that kind anymore, even if I can do them and will do them well.
It is not worth throwing my blood pressure outta wack!! LOL

You see, as much as I love to sew, I love to sew for others - that is when my schedule permits it.  And I usually put all others "first" before I ever work on my own clothing/projects, and I seem to always make time for others Of course that has got me into a couple tight spots come time for me to have some thing to wear and trying to get it finished for myself!  I guess this is how many of my UFO's were born!!  Putting my projects on the back burner to make time for someone else and of course the momentum is gone - so let's start something else.  Yes, I think I can safely say my UFO's were created this way.   With clothing they really never became UFO's as they were to be worn at a certain time and there was no way I was going out to buy something!!

Being short is a struggle in finding clothing that fits well.  Ask me... I know!!  This is one of the reasons that I started to make my own clothing - years ago!  I very seldom do that now, but there are times I look at something and think "I can do that!"  But I don't... I know it won't get finished unless I have a place and time it is actually needed for LOL

So seeing I am going to work on busting UFO's this year, I best get back to the "Down-Under Sweat Shop" ... my sewing room!!

Unfortunately, work gets in the way of my passion.  My hobby - my sanction - my stress reliever.   Try as I might to change how things are - it just doesn't work out - the responsibility of the job is just too high and my morals will not allow me to be anything other than I am and always have been - reliable, responsible.  And take real pride in that!  But as my saying is to others "Suck it up buttercup and get over it." So, What's the Story behind this quilt?

The day of revealing "The Quilt" is now over for those following me on Facebook, and I made it but just barely though!  The quilt it now all bound and looks wonder, if I do say so! You  maybe wondering if there is any meaning/story behind this quilt I have been working so hard on for the past two weeks, and actually there is a lot of meaning in it.  Some things came to me as I went along; somethings with a whole of meaning.  You best go get a coffee/adult beverage - go head... I'll wait for you! On June 3rd, our little town hosts a Relay for Life, where we walk for 12 hours (7pm - 7am) as a fund raiser for Cancer (see here for more info http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR?fr_id=8672&pg=entry ) Did you know there were this many ribbons? Feeling Like Something New? Yes, Please!!

It’s not like that I don’t have anything else that I can work on to bring it to its finished stage.  Couldn’t be further from the truth.  At one point, (maybe 6 or more years ago) I had well over 100 projects in various stages of completion.  I did cut that down by quite a bit but I still have many, many more to complete.  Although, many are at the "to-be-quilted" stage and I just haven’t got to "wanting" to do that part ... yet!  Soon I will bring myself to corral all of these UFO’s in one area and count them.  Kind of dreading that day! 😨 I have some projects right now that I have spent 12 or more hours on and they are not even close to looking like they are ready for completion.  There are times when the amount of time one spends on any given project really plays with your “mojo” see it to the finish, so you need to , no that’s not right,  have to , still not right ... want to start something new!  That’s it!  I’m at the want stage!!!   Yes, I have two comm
